Did you catch the title of this post? Read it again...Buffalo Chip Saloon & Steakhouse...isn't that a great name? I mean, who wouldn't want to experience a place with that name, right? A saloon named after a buffalo chip? Great. I loved it :) When Steve mentioned that was the name of our date night location Friday night, I was excited! We got to wear our cowboy hats and the weather would be cool out there. It's in Cave Creek, Arizona which is essentially north Phoenix but out in the country (kind of).
6:45 - arrive at saloon. Put our names on the list for a table.
7:30 - discover there are still about 43 people ahead of us on the waiting list. Decide to scrap it and go another night.
7:40 - walk out the door. Bartender mentions she will seat us at the bar and we can order dinner. Decide to stay. Yay! We stay and order dinner.
8:30 - bull riding round 1 begins in the back. Turns out that behind the saloon are picnic tables, multiple bonfires, a dutch-oven buffet, a big-screen tv broadcasting either what's happening in the saloon or out at the bull riding ring, and bleachers around the ring. Steve and I found a place to stand and watch round 1 of the bull riding.
8:45 - Country dancing begins inside the saloon. Most of you probably don't know this about Steve, but he's got moves! The boy knows country swing dancing. We danced every song! We had a blast, too. Later we noticed the dance floor being broadcast on the big screen tv outside. The dancing was my favorite part of the night, with watching the bull riding as a semi-close second...
9:45 - round 2 of bull riding. This time we knew to get out there early! We ended up in bleacher seats, which was more comfortable than standing and trying to see over people, and we could see everything from our seats! Even a 14-year-old boy rode a tiny bull. The whole thing was incredibly entertaining.
We decided we liked it so well that we'll go back. It was definitely one of the more fun and unique dates we've been on :)

That sounds like a blast! I had no idea you could swing Thompson! I went country swing dancing almost every Saturday night in high school. Next time we're in Phoenix, you will have to take us there :)
Go cowgirl and cowboy!! Sounds so fun!
