On Memorial Day, it's tradition to drive over to the park where all the flags are put up. Unfortunately, this year it was raining when they went to put the flags up, so there were only a few on display. We were there just as the special program started, so that was neat. The kids played at the park and Dallas and his cousin Preston rode in the wagon together. Best friends for life :)
For lunch, my mom hosted a bbq - everybody pitched in for a delicious, never-ending meal that satisfied. There is nothing better than lounging around eating yummy food while watching the kids eat and play together in the yard. It was a warm and humid day, but breezy. My parents have a covered deck that kept us shaded while we chatted, played games, and enjoyed each other's company.
The bbq morphed into a birthday celebration for Miss Ellie! We started with some party games for this rainbow-themed birthday shin-dig. First up: Rainbow Punch-Out (made by yours truly - and it was a labor of love for my girl, her brother and their cousins - I knew it would be a smashing success, which made it all worth it!).
And then...presents.
This is my favorite picture of Ellie from the day. It epitomizes her as a three-nearly-four-year-old: muddy legs, skirt and ruffled shirt, dandelion crown, and her sweet smile. I never want to forget her from this moment.
And finally, the cake! Which in all honesty, we were all much too stuffed to enjoy fully. But I was pretty happy with how it turned out, and Ellie was thrilled with it, so success!
And more fun from the weekend:
We're so glad to live close enough to celebrate our special days with family!
